Youth Employment 101 for Educators:Internships, Community-Based Vocational Education, Stipends and Wages
Studies show that students who engage in workforce development activities demonstrate a higher rate of college completion, as well as, better sucess in the labor market. Work experiences help all youth make the critical connection between education and work as they prepare for employment opportunities post-graduation. The training introduces initiatives from the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability/Youth, as well as, discussing the six criteria set forth by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) test for paid and unpaid internships and work experiences. The group will engage in case study examples which answer the question, "Do your schools' Work Readiness Programs, Internships or Work Experience Placements pass the FLSA test?" Join us to find out.
