Teaching With A "Cultural Eye": Equity-focused Education and Culturally Responsive Teaching

Training type: Community Based Training
Training topic: Professional Development
Date and time: Wed, 10/28/2020 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Location: Virtual (via Zoom)
Description:

Equity-focused Education and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) begins with how we think about equity, in the context of our own life experiences and the life experiences of our students. Classrooms today are filled with more diverse student learners than ever before. Culturally responsive teachers emphasize the importance of creating lessons, structuring classroom environments and teaching content that reflects the learner's individual and cultural experiences, past and present.

Join us as training participants understand the dimensions of equity-focused education: multicultural education, social justice education and culturally responsive teaching. Too often, these terms are used interchangeably, when they are not. Participants will also dive deeper into exploring Five Culturally Responsive Teaching/Learning Methods that Matter. Pratical strategies will be shared to assist teachers to create spaces where the values of diversity, inclusion and equity can thrive.
