Promoting self-determination and self-advocacy has been recognized as best practice in the education of students with disabilities since the early 1990s when the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandated increased student involvement in transition. Empowering students with disabilities to take an active role in planning their furture is life changing.This training will define self-determination and self-advocacy and provide training participants with resources, tools and activities that cultivate opportunities for students to practice, develop and strengthen their self-determination and self-advocacy skills which in turn leads to greater independence and self-efficiency.
